How Singpass and Myinfo Verify Identity for Teleconsults in Singapore
Understand how Singpass and Myinfo help online doctor registration, what data sharing means, and why doctors still need a proper video assessment.
Digital Health Clinic·18 Jun 2026·7 min read
Singpass and Myinfo help teleconsult providers verify identity and pre-fill registration details with user consent. They do not replace the doctor's clinical assessment. A safe teleconsult still needs the doctor to confirm who you are, understand where you are, assess your symptoms, and decide whether online care is appropriate.
For patients, the benefit is simple: fewer forms, fewer typing errors, and a faster path into the queue. For clinics, verified identity data helps reduce wrong-patient records and supports safer documentation for MCs, prescriptions, invoices, and referrals.

What Singpass does
Singpass is Singapore's national digital identity. It lets residents access public and private digital services securely. In healthcare workflows, Singpass can be used to authenticate the user before a form is filled or a transaction is submitted.
Authentication does not mean every medical decision is automatic. It means the service has a stronger signal that the person registering is linked to a trusted digital identity.
What Myinfo does
Myinfo lets users securely pre-fill forms with verified personal data from government sources, with consent. GovTech describes this as reducing repetitive data entry and improving accuracy. Instead of typing every field manually, the patient can consent to share selected data needed for registration.
The clinic should request only data needed for the healthcare workflow. Depending on the service, that may include identity, contact, date of birth, or address fields. Clinical symptoms, medication allergies, and current illness details still need to be provided by the patient and assessed by the doctor.
Why video assessment still matters
MOH has previously highlighted good telemedicine practices such as using live video to authenticate identity, assess visual cues, build rapport, and confirm the patient's location so emergency help can be directed if needed. Separately, MOH enforcement around MC issuance without audio or video consultation shows why a remote consult cannot be treated as a form-only process.
Singpass can help with identity. Myinfo can help with registration. The doctor still needs to practise medicine: history, assessment, safety-netting, documentation, and escalation when teleconsult is unsuitable.
What patients should check before consenting
- Check that the website or app is the real provider, not a lookalike page.
- Read what data is being requested before approving sharing.
- Use your own Singpass, not someone else's account.
- Confirm your contact details and delivery address are current.
- Tell the doctor if the pre-filled data is wrong or outdated.
- Do not share Singpass passwords, OTPs, or app approvals with anyone.
Can foreigners use teleconsult without Singpass?
Some providers support manual registration for patients without Singpass or Myinfo. The clinic may need alternative identity checks, such as passport or FIN details, and the doctor may ask additional questions before proceeding. Medication delivery, MC details, and payment workflows may differ depending on identity documents and location.
What happens after identity is verified?
Identity verification is usually followed by clinical intake: symptoms, duration, allergies, medications, pregnancy status where relevant, chronic diseases, and red flags. The care team may then place you in a queue. The doctor decides whether teleconsult is safe, whether medication or an MC is appropriate, and whether you should be redirected to in-person care.

Frequently asked questions
Does Singpass prove I am sick?
No. Singpass helps authenticate identity. The doctor still needs to assess symptoms and decide whether you need treatment, an MC, medication, or in-person care.
What is Myinfo used for in teleconsult registration?
Myinfo can pre-fill verified personal data with your consent, reducing manual typing and registration errors. It does not fill in your symptoms or replace medical history-taking.
Can I use someone else's Singpass to register?
No. Use your own identity. Registering under the wrong person can create unsafe medical records, wrong MC details, and prescription risks.
Can I consult without Singpass?
Some providers offer manual registration. You may need to provide other identity details, and the clinic may perform additional checks before the video consult.
